James Dean Memorial Trophy Game

During last summer, we held an ex-players memorial game and fundraising event in memory of FC Halifax Town and Chorley FC legend, James Dean.

Known to many as Deano, the footballer was sadly found dead in May 2021 leaving behind two young sons.

By sponsoring the football kits, holding an online auction and running a prize draw we helped raise money to go into a trust fund for the two boys.

Some truly fantastic items were donated by people throughout the football world and the wider business community, including a signed Mo Salah Liverpool shirt, signed match worn Alisson Becker gloves and a signed Spurs shirt.

These prizes were auctioned by our sister company, SliderStock, which has a fully customisable and cost-effective online platform that allows charities to create bespoke fundraising campaigns for live or online events.

On the day, Leeds United legend Eddie Gray gave a speech and conducted the live auction, which saw, amongst other items, a signed Jamie Vardy Leicester City shirt go for £370.

Deano played a huge part in both Halifax Town and Chorley clubs, and the response from players, coaches and fans to his untimely passing demonstrated the regard in which he was held, not only as a player but as a person.

More than one thousand fans attended the event and Chorley won the game 4-0 at their Victory Park ground.

The teams hope to make the match an annual event.
